"When I moved to Barbourville in July, I was in for a life change in more ways than one. Over the previous six months I had let myself go physically while I was finishing PT school and afterwards when I took the six week break that I told myself I “deserved,” when in reality I was lazy and undisciplined. This seeped into every area of my life and affected me mentally, spiritually, and physically —> “We cannot give our hearts to God and keep our bodies for ourselves.” - Elisabeth Elliot

I knew that my sister, Katie Hornn coached a CrossFit class on Tuesday nights, so Shebly Rudd and I figured we’d give it a shot. Well, pretty soon a couple of nights a week turned into 4-5 mornings a week and the rest is history. Each day brought a new challenge and an opportunity to compete with myself that I’d been missing for quite some time.

If you’re questioning whether or not you’re capable of doing CrossFit, the answer is “Yes, you are.” If you’re wondering when the best time is to make a change in your life, the answer is “Right now.itles, paragraphs & more.

“My first day at CrossFit I fell in love. Of course, I could barely walk the rest of the week, but I kept wanting to come back for more. It’s my safe place. It’s a place where I can go to workout the stress that I have going on in my life. I may be completely exhausted after the workout, but I leave happier, and better than I was before. Really, the “getting in shape” part is just a bonus. CrossFit has restored my inner athlete, a part of myself that I had lost, and given me more self confidence.”

“If you’re waiting until you can afford it... you can’t afford not to (in my opinion). Don’t let YOU be you’re own worst enemy. Stop trying to take the easy way out. NO. MORE. EXCUSES.”

I started this journey in late May when one of our very best friends opened a CrossFit gym that I could walk (or run) to from home if needed. I hadn’t been back in the gym long and was somewhat intimidated because of recent surgeries and medical issues. I was also just out of shape and undisciplined. However, since the very beginning Katie, Casey and Jacob have been super supportive and encouraging of pushing the limits of my strength and what I am able to do. They make me laugh when I want to cry, entertain my crazy, push me when I need it and do their best to teach me how to hang clean correctly ðŸ˜‚.

My Lunch hour has changed from unhealthy junk to my hour to focus on improving myself mentally and physically and I could not ask for a better CrossFit Family to help me on the way. From my trainers to my best friend on this journey with me It has been the best decision for just myself in awhile. I am a better mother, therapist, wife and friend for it.
Pictures are roughly one year, 35 lbs, several inches and a different person apart. When I’m my worst critic, a good old Facebook memory will remind me of how far I have come.
